New Holiday: Giving Tuesday
Let’s start a NEW Holiday (because November/December just doesn’t have enough of them, right!?).
Forget Black Friday, forget Cyber Monday. Let’s celebrate:
Today, Giving Tuesday, let’s give to local and international charities out of our abundance and in thankfulness. Let’s give because much has been given to us. Let’s give because no matter our income level, we believe we can all afford to “spread the wealth” a bit so the less fortunate or destitute or disabled, dismembered, or disenfranchised who are our neighbors can suffer less this year.
This year I’m giving to Harbor Orphan Care. They enable more children to be paired with loving households. The founders are dear friends of mine. Here’s an excellent write-up from my ala mater on them and what they do.
Here are a few other charities that I highly recommend:
Habitat for Humanity
Bread for the World
Interfaith Worker Justice
Faith in Public Life
ONE – Join the Fight Against Extreme Poverty
